Educational Conference on Guru Granth Sahib
To commemorate 300 years of Guru Granth Sahib as Eternal Guru Guru Gobind Singh Foundation in Rockville, Maryland will hold an Educational Conference on August 2nd, Saturday at Shady Grove campus of University of Maryland (9630 Gudelsky Drive, Rockville, MD 20850) from 10.00 AM to 4PM.

Launching of year long celebration of

300th Anniversary of Gurgaddi of Guru Granth Sahib ji




   Guru Gobind Singh Foundation is pleased to announce a year long celebration of 300th anniversary of Gurgaddi Diwas of Guru Granth Sahib ji.   This is in honor of installation of Guru Granth Sahib as the Word Guru. The 10th light of Guru Nanak- Guru Gobind Singh ji ordained the Sikhs to regard Guru Granth Sahib as their spiritual guide  in 1708 at Nander in Maharastra, India.  Shabad as Word Guru is a unique concept  in Sikhism which makes the Sikhs as followers of Wisdom which descended from God. The tri centennial anniversary will be celebrated worldwide on October 20th, 2008.

Guru Gobind Singh Foundation is formally launching the celebration this Sunday by holding its first study circle. These study circles through out the year will feature various topics concerning human life from Guru Granth Sahib.

Dr. Kirpal Singh, a well-known psychiatrist and a philanthropist, will be speaking at the Gurdwara Sahib on issue of Anxiety and Worry in present day life and its causes. Kirtan and Katha will also focus on this issue from the wisdom of Guru Granth Sahib during the diwan. This will be followed by an hour long dialogue from 2.30- 3.30 PM after Langar. Please join in this unique way to celebrate this important event in our lives.

Below is the detail of the various events throughout the year planned by of year long celebration by Guru Gobind Singh Foundation:

1)Study circle- There will be study circle first Sunday of every month from 2.30 - 3.30 PM in which various concepts and aspects of Guru Granth Sahib will be discussed in dialogue format.

2)Kirtan Durbar on Saturday, April 5th , 2008 at Gurdwara Sahib. Famous Ragi Jatha of Mohinderjit Singh from Delhi will participate.

3)An Educational conference featuring eminent national and international scholars will be held in June. (date to be Announced)

4) Kirtan Durbar in August 2008 (date to be Announced)

5) Kavi Durbar in September 2008 (date to be Announced)

6) A Drama will be conducted by Sikh youth of GGSF on the concepts of Guru Granth Sahib ji and this will be in collaboration with Children's Theater Company of New York.

7) An outreach effort has been started with the county schools and County government to come up with a plan to create awareness about this major celebration in the Sikh calender.

8) Final celebration on October 17,18, 19, and 20th October.

Sikh Conference is being coordinated by Dr. Rajwant Singh, Dr. Harjit Singh Bajaj, Dr. Harminder Singh Sethi, Amrit Kaur, Ranjit Singh and Satpal Singh Kang

Directions for the Gurdwara Sahib: From 495 Beltway, take 270 North, take Exit 6B for Rt 28 West, turn left at Darnestown Road, turn left at Travilah Road, go two miles and the gurdwara will be at your right.
