Camp Gurmat is held every year in Maryland in the month of July. The facility (known as Smith Center) is owned and operated by Montgomery County Public Schools, is located approximately in the middle of Montgomery County and is included completely within the boundaries of the Rock Creek Regional Park.
There are four dormitory buildings at the Smith Center. Girls’ dorms are completely separate from boys’ dorms. The dorms are heated in the winter and have fans in the warmer months. The rooms have bunk beds and private showers and bathrooms.
SCHEDULE/TIME EVERY YEAR
Normally the leased Facility will confirm the Camp dates about 60 days before the Camp is to start. Once the dates are confirmed, an e-mail is sent requesting parents to register on line (if you are not sure or would like to get on the future e-mail list, please send an e-mail to CampGurmat@gmail.com).

· 100 Campers on a first-cum-first basis. Past experience shows the spots fill up very quickly, it is advised to register as soon as it opens.
· The age requirements for campers are 7-17 years as of July 31.

From 495 take 270 North. Exit Shady Grove Road going east. Go about 3 miles, turn right at Muncaster Mill Road. Go another 3 miles and turn right on Meadowside Lane. The facility is on your right.
ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE TIMES
Please plan to arrive by 5:30 p.m. on the first day of the Camp. Dinner will be served – non-campers are requested to contribute $5.00 per person. On the last day of Camp, CAMPERS MUST CHECK OUT BY 10:00 a.m. from dorms. Parents are requested to attend the final program on final day of the Camp.
The following are minimum suggested items that campers must bring with them:
1. Clothes for a week
2. Sufficient undergarments
3. Long sleeve jacket/sweater
4. Insect repellent
5. Pagri/Patka or Chunni
6. Two bed sheets, a pillow and a blanket
7. Laundry bag
10. Soap, deodorant, toothpaste, comb, Shower cap (must) etc.
11. Towels – 2 at least
12. Harmonium and Tabla
Please mark all items for identification.
NO CHEWING GUM, CANDIES, RADIOS.
The nearest airports are BWI International (preferred) and Dulles International, Virginia. Please reserve the plane tickets so the arrival is around 4:00 p.m. of the first day of the Camp whereas departure is after 6:00 p.m. on the last day of Camp.
During all evening diwans, male campers are required to wear Kurta Pajama and Pagri. Female campers are required to wear salwar kameez and chunni. All campers are required to get ready before the diwan starts.
